Academy Award nominated actress, Taraji P. Henson, will star in the Gyre Entertainment film, From the Roughwhich is based on a true story. Catana Starks (Henson), a former swimming coach at Tennessee State University who became the first woman ever to coach a college men’s golf team, guided a mismatched group of troublesome kids from around the world to an all-time record at the PGA National Collegiate Minority Championship. Director Pierre Bagley states,

“This extraordinary film explores one’s ability to transform life’s rough circumstances into distinct advantages. It confronts issues of race, gender, class and cultural barriers in ways that are provocative, and sometimes hilarious.”

The film, which is set to release this Fall, also features Justin Chon (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), Tom Felton(Harry Potter), Letoya Luckett (The Preacher’s Kid), Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), Robert Bailey Jr. (Coraline) and Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue).
